Cavemen (2013) Directed by Herschel Faber

This is one of the most annoying movies I have seen in a long while. I can handle generic romantic comedies but just not when they are as poorly executed as this one.

Really don't know what the film-makers were thinking when they were making this one. It perhaps at first sight may look like a pretty decent, formulaic, genre movie but as the movie keeps progressing it becomes obvious that the writer and director of this movie (Herschel Faber) had absolutely no idea what he was doing.

Like of course every other romantic comedy, it's dealing with love. The perception of love in this movie however feels like it got written by a 12-year old, naive and inexperienced boy. All of the characters talk about love like they don't even know what it is and like they experiencing all of their feelings for the very first time. This perhaps may have been fine for a movie about teenagers but all of the characters in this movie are in the mid- and late 20's. They truly talk about it in such an incredibly immature and naive way, which is one of the many different reasons why this feels like an incredibly unrealistic and annoying movie.

And that's one of the problems with this movie as well; the character just keep talking and talking and talking about the exact same things over and over again. It doesn't ever feel like the story or characters are ever progressing. It's also annoying how this yet again is one of those movies in which the two main characters obviously like each other but neither of them has the guts to tell the other, until the very end of the movie of course. Oopsie! Spoiler! Well, not really of course. In this type of movies things rarely come as a surprise and you can already tell how things are going to end and develop, after having only seen the first 10 minutes of it.

And because this is feeling like a mostly naive and immature movie, all of the comedy falls flat as well. Not that the comedy of the movie is immature as well but just like everything else in this movie, it's lacking bite. Nothing creative or sensible about this movie. It's not fun, it's not cute, it's not engaging and it most definitely is not a very good date movie either, unless your goal is to bore and annoy your date.

The acting isn't all that bad though, Despite the fact that all of the characters remain some shallow, one-dimensional and stereotypical ones, they still don't work out as annoying or terrible ones as well, due to the fine performances by all of the actors. Most of the characters are therefor also actually still some likable ones but really, that's about the only and most positive thing I can say about this movie!

Without exaggerating, it's one of the absolute worst romantic movies that I have ever seen!
